Désirant exposer sa disgrâce et trouver de la grâce dans son propre ridicule, Léa Katharina Meier développe une démarche artistique d’auto-démolition qui se nourrit de ses échecs. A l’instar de la pratique clownesque, qui utilisent le rire et le grotesque comme des interrogateurs des regards normatifs et oppressifs que nous portons sur les corps et les visions des mondes qui nous entourent, elle crée des narrations alternatives où la honte et l’abject occupent une place empouvoirante.

La performance Magique Abjection Dream que Léa Katharina Meier réalise pour HitStories, en collaboration avec Tatiana Baumgartner, nous invite dans une atmosphère douce-amer afin de nous raconter des histoires fabuleuses et honteuses. En adoptant un regard qui rit de et questionne son intimité et sa sexualité, elle propose un espace de fabulation où touxte le monde est lx·a·e bienvenu·x·e à se sentir mal à l’aise.

HitStories est un programme d’événements performatifs et d’ateliers qui a lieu à HIT, un espace d’art genevois, entre mai 2021 et avril 2022. Chaque épisode de HitStories met en lumière, sur quelques jours, la pratique d’un.e.x artiste à HIT. Des événements (conversations, ateliers, etc.) visant à approfondir les recherches menées par les artistes accompagnent leur intervention performative.

Wishing to expose her disgrace and find grace in her own ridiculousness, Léa Katharina Meier develops an artistic approach of self-demolition that feeds on her failures. Like the art of clowning, which uses laughter and the grotesque to question the normative and oppressive views we hold on bodies and the world around us, she creates alternative narratives where shame and the abject occupy an empowering place.

The Magical Abjection Dream performance that Lea Katharina Meier produces for HitStories, in collaboration with Tatiana Baumgartner, invites us into a bittersweet atmosphere to tell us fabulous and shameful stories. She proposes a space of storytelling, from a perspective that mocks and questions her intimacy and sexuality, where everyone is welcome to feel uncomfortable.

D’origine mythologique & sensuelle, une forêt sombre & verte s’ouvre sur une backroom, une cave suburbaine, une éternité de stupre & de fête.

Mayara Yamada présente ÉGUX!-AGAIN, une nouvelle performance et installation produite en collaboration avec Caio Riscado et Mirta Gariboldi pour Hit, en réponse à ÉGUX! – une performance dans laquelle l’artiste brésilienne explorait diverses possibilités de dé-domestication de son corps vis-à-vis d’un système patriarcal abusif. Réalisée en 2014, ÉGUX! a été présentée dans divers contextes au Brésil (festivals, institutions, galeries, mais aussi dans l’espace public, dans des cadres universitaires et en ligne). Pour HitStories, Mayara Yamada revisite les archives générées par les multiples itérations d’EGUX!, dans la perspective de recontextualiser cette production et de saisir son impact profond sur la pratique performative de l’artiste.

Loin de dresser un portrait flatteur de l’oeuvre, ÉGUX!-AGAIN peut être considérée comme une tentative d’empouvoirement vis-à-vis des nombreuses réactions qu’ÉGUX! a suscitées. Déplacer et faire corps avec cette archive est pour Mayara Yamada une manière de se confronter à des récits qui ont échappé à son contrôle et aux motivations initiales d’ÉGUX!, de la production de contenus haineux à la fétichisation de son corps de femme en passant par le harcèlement moral et psychologique virtuel.

La révision d’ÉGUX! s’inscrit dans l’idée qu’une archive est vivante, affirmant ses possibilités continues de création et de re-création de récits de réalité(s). ÉGUX!-AGAIN est l’une des versions possibles de cette histoire en constante transformation.

Mayara Yamada presents EGUX!-AGAIN, a new performance and installation produced in collaboration with Caio Riscado and Mirta Gariboldi for Hit, in response to EGUX! – a performance in which the Brazilian artist explored various possibilities of undomesticating her body in relation to an abusive patriarchal system. Produced in 2014, EGUX! was presented in various contexts in Brazil (festivals, institutions, galleries, but also in public space, academic settings and online). For HitStories, Mayara Yamada revisits the archive generated by the multiple iterations of EGUX! with the aim of recontextualizing this production and capturing its profound impact on the artist’s performative practice.

Far from painting a flattering portrait of the work, EGUX! can be seen as an endeavor of empowerment regarding the many reactions EGUX! has provoked. Moving and becoming one with this archive is a way for Mayara Yamada to confront narratives that were beyond her control and the original motivations for EGUX!. From the production of hateful content to the fetishization of her female body to virtual psychological and moral harassment.

The revision of EGUX! stands by the idea that an archive is alive, affirming its continuous possibilities of creating and re-creating narratives of reality(ies). EGUX!-AGAIN is one of the possible versions of this ever-changing story.

Sensible à l’histoire des lieux qui l’invitent, Davide-Christelle Sanvee a investi l’espace de Hit, initialement l’atelier d’Anne Minazio, comme un lieu hybride entre atelier et espace intime. Davide-Christelle questionne depuis peu son rapport aux cheveux, par le biais d’abord d’objets-tresses entre sculpture et mobilier domestique, qui étaient présentés et ont pu être utilisés à Hit.

Pour HitStories, elle a donc abordé cette question d’un point de vue sculptural mais aussi, pour la première fois, performatif. Nous invitant à lui rendre visite pour discuter, boire un café ou manger dans son proto atelier/appartement, déplacé le temps de quatre jours à Hit, elle nous conviait également à assister à un rituel auquel elle procède généralement en amont de ses performances, dans l’intimité – à savoir celui de se faire tresser les cheveux. En déplaçant cette action et la rendant de fait visible, elle relie cet acte à des questions d’intégration, mais aussi d’aliénation, de transformation et de fétichisation, centrales à sa pratique.

Sensitive to the history of the places that invite her, Davide-Christelle Sanvee has invested the space of Hit, initially Anne Minazio’s studio, as a hybrid place between studio and intimate space. Davide-Christelle has recently been questioning her relationship with hair, initially through “braid-objects”, between sculpture and domestic furniture, which were presented and used at Hit.

For HitStories, she therefore approached this question from a sculptural, but also for the first time, performative, point of view. Inviting us to visit her for a chat, a coffee or a meal in her proto-workshop/apartment, which was moved to Hit for four days, she also invited us to attend a ritual that she usually performs before her performances, in the privacy of her home – that of having her hair braided. By displacing this action and making it visible, she links this act to questions of integration, but also of alienation, transformation and fetishization, which are central to her practice.

Atelier d’écriture collective le 9 octobre de 14h à 16h

Ce travail à quatre mains est réalisé par Johana Blanc et Diane Rivoire qui placent toutes deux le texte, l’écriture et la lecture au centre de leur pratique artistique. Pour JE / TU (NOUS), elles s’invitent mutuellement à déplacer leurs mots, que ce soit sur le terrain de la performance pour Diane ou de l’édition pour Johana. Elles tissent ainsi un travail collaboratif sous la forme de transcriptions de conversations téléphoniques et d’échanges de références, et situent pour la première fois ensemble leurs voix dans l’espace.

Leur performance et installation abordent, lors d’une conférence revisitée, l’art mnémonique du théâtre de la mémoire. Un dialogue qui tend à l’exercice d’admiration horizontale, dans lequel se brouillent appropriation et identification, et tente de situer un JE pluriel parmi un flot de paroles entrelacées. Une importance donnée à la voix, à ses modulations en fonction de son adresse, à sa fragilité, ses silences, ses hésitations, son souffle par amour des mots et des textes féministes en particulier.

This work is produced by Johana Blanc and Diane Rivoire who both put text, writing and reading at the centre of their artistic practice. For JE / TU (NOUS), they invite each other to move their words, whether it be in the field of performance for Diane or publishing for Johana. They thus weave a collaborative work in the form of transcriptions of telephone conversations and exchange of references and place their voices together in space for the first time.

Their performance and installation address, in a revisited conference, the mnemonic art of the theatre of memory. A dialogue that tends to be an exercise of horizontal admiration, in which appropriation and identification become blurred, and attempts to locate a plural I among a stream of intertwined words. An importance is given to the voice, to its modulations according to its address, to its fragility, its silences, its hesitations, its breath for love of words and feminist texts in particular.

Un an et demi après la deuxième édition de l’Archipelagogo Club au Théâtre de l’Usine en janvier 2020, une performance nourrie de résilience et de flamboyance à l’approche du premier confinement, Anna Tje et Maïté Chénière ont poursuivi pour HitStories leur exploration de l’utilisation du son et de la voix électronique comme espace d’émancipation et de guérison pour les corps archipéliques.

Au gré de leurs conversations, les artistes ont nourri une pratique occasionnelle de partage de mantras, de films et de musiques, comme pour se soutenir à distance. Leur travail entre performance sonore et installation immersive a pris à HIT la forme d’une performance duo qui témoigne de cette correspondance, pensée comme un dialogue poétique entre soundscape et enchantement, durant laquelle iels ont partagé les affirmations issues de leurs échanges, de leurs discussions, de leurs films ou lectures favorites.

Après leur performance à HIT, leur intervention a continué à habiter l’espace d’exposition sous forme d’installation sonore, conçue comme un espace méditatif où les corps des participant.e.x.s pouvaient s’allonger sur des coussins en forme de noyaux de prunes.

A year and a half after the second edition of the Archipelagogo Club at the Théâtre de l’Usine in January 2020, a performance fuelled by resilience and flamboyance as the first lockdown was approaching, Anna Tje and Maïté Chénière have continued for HitStories their exploration of the use of sound and electronic voice as a space of emancipation and healing for archipelagic bodies.

Through their conversations, the artists have nurtured an occasional practice of sharing mantras, films and music, as if to support each other at a distance. Their work, which is situated between performance and immersive installation, took the form of a duo performance at HIT. The performance was a testimony of their correspondence, conceived as a poetic dialogue between soundscape and enchantment, during which they shared the affirmations resulting from their discussions, their favourite films or readings.

After their performance at HIT, their intervention continued to inhabit the exhibition space in the form of a sound installation, conceived as a meditative space where participants bodies could lie down on cushions in the shape of plum stones.

Pour HitStories, Lara Dâmaso poursuit son exploration du potentiel communicatif, thérapeutique et politique de la/sa voix, utilisée de manière irrationnelle, dissonante, incontrôlée et non intentionnelle en relation avec les mouvements du/de son corps. Elle établit un rapprochement entre le mouvement de la voix (le chant) et le mouvement du corps (la danse), tous deux émetteurs de vibrations engendrant un dialogue entre le corps physique, émotionnel et l’environnement dans lequel ce corps se déplace.

Lara Dâmaso a réalisé à HIT une performance d’improvisation dansée et vocale structurée qui a continué à habiter l’espace d’exposition en tant qu’installation audio durant toute la durée de son intervention, du 1^er au 4 juillet 2021.

Afin d’approfondir son exploration du potentiel de la voix, Lara Dâmaso a invité Colin Self à organiser un Xoir workshop. Xoir est un atelier vocal non utilitaire mené par Colin Self axé sur des modalités alternatives de chant collectif. Ancré dans la recherche et l’expérimentation somatiques, Xoir a pour but de favoriser un environnement propice qui permette de se connecter à un niveau individuel et collectif à la voix, à la vocalité. Xoir est ouvert à toute personne intéressée par l’exploration de sa voix en tant qu’outil d’apprentissage ou de réappropriation d’une nouvelle relation au chant et à l’écoute. Colin Self compose et chorégraphie de la musique, des performances et des environnements qui favorisent l’expansion de la conscience et troublent les frontières de la perception et de la communication.

For HitStories, Lara Dâmaso pursues her exploration of the/her voice’s communicative, therapeutic and political potential when used irrationally, dissonantly, uncontrollably and unintentionally in relation to the/her body’s movements. She establishes a connection between the movement of the voice (singing) and the movement of the body (dancing), both emitting vibrations that generate a dialogue between the physical, emotional body and the environment in which this body moves.

At HIT, Lara Dâmaso showed a structured dance and vocal improvisation performance that continued to inhabit the exhibition space as an audio installation throughout the duration of her intervention, from July 1 to 4.

To further explore the potential of the voice, Lara Dâmaso invited Colin Self to run a Xoir workshop. Xoir is a non-utilitarian vocal workshop led by Colin Self focused on alternative modalities of group singing. Rooted in somatic research and experimentation, the goal of Xoir is to foster a generative environment for individuals to connect with voice and vocality on an individual and collective level. Xoir is open to anyone interested in exploring their voice as a tool for learning or re-posturing a new relationship to singing and listening. Colin Self composes and choreographs music, performance, and environments for expanding consciousness, troubling binaries and boundaries of perception and communication. THey work with communities across disciplines and practices, using voices, bodies, and computers as tools to interface with biological and technological software.

Seconde artiste invitée dans le cadre de HitStories, Juliette Gampert explore par le biais d’une bande sonore ponctuée d’apparitions visuelles le concept de Black Atlantic de Paul Gilroy. Rassemblant plusieurs récits, qu’ils soient personnels ou fictifs, elle questionne la manière dont les croyances et divinités liées à l’archétype de l’eau évoluent au sein de la diaspora africaine et caribéenne. L’océan devient lieu de mémoire, d’identités disséminées, hybrides et fluides, lieu d’énergie sacrée qui s’exprime à travers les corps par les différentes formes culturelles auxquelles l’histoire de l’Atlantique a donné lieu. L’installation qui accompagne cette bande sonore à HIT immerge les visiteur.ice.x.s dans un univers évoquant l’osunality, ou encore le marronnage en s’inspirant de la visite de grottes et cascades en Jamaïque comme les Reach Falls qui ont marqué sa mémoire.

Dans sa démarche artistique, Juliette Gampert s’intéresse à la mémoire ancestrale et au caractère rituel et thérapeutique des danses populaires par le biais de sa pratique et son étude du dancehall – culture née en Jamaïque, d’où provient une partie de ses origines. Accompagnant cette installation à HIT, Juliette Gampert et Manuela Rüefli proposent un workshop rassemblant pratiques méditatives, mouvement, danse et rituel qui exploreront l’énergie de l’eau pour célébrer la Nouvelle Lune du 10 juin.

Juliette Gampert explores Paul Gilroy’s concept of Black Atlantic through a soundtrack punctuated by visual apparitions. Gathering several stories, both personal and fictional, she questions the way beliefs and divinities linked to the archetype of water evolve within the African and Caribbean diaspora. The ocean becomes a place of memory, of scattered, hybrid and fluid identities, a place of sacred energy expressed through the bodies by the different cultural forms the history of the Atlantic has given rise to. The installation that accompanies this soundtrack immerses the visitors in a universe evoking osunality and marooning, inspired by her visit of caves and waterfalls in Jamaica such as the Reach Falls that have marked her memory.

In her artistic approach, Juliette Gampert is interested in the ancestral memory and the ritual and therapeutic character of popular dances through her practice and study of dancehall – a culture born in Jamaica, where part of her origins lie. Accompanying this installation at HIT, Juliette Gampert and Manuela Rüefli ran a workshop bringing together meditative practices, movement, dance and ritual to explore the energy of water in celebration of the New Moon on June 10.

Follow the white rabbit est une nouvelle performance audiovisuelle et installation de l’artiste Fatima Wegmann qui repose sur un principe de résonance entre divers récits, expériences, rêves et cosmovisions personnelles. Elle y établit des dialogues entre des voix, des mouvements, des symboles, des objets et de la musique qui l’amènent sur un chemin de guérison et de liberté d’être au monde.

Première artiste invitée dans le cadre de HitStories, elle s’est engagée avec cette nouvelle production dans une exploration à la fois plus sculpturale et incarnée des enjeux qui sous-tendent sa démarche, à savoir ménager des espaces d’action par une écoute bienveillante de soi et des autres.

Dans la même démarche, l’artiste a mené un atelier « d’écriture organique », une méthode d’écriture curative développée par l’auteure, poétesse, universitaire et militante féministe chicana Gloria Anzaldúa. L’atelier était suivi d’un exercice d’embodiment visant à laisser notre corps, nos organes et nos émotions s’exprimer.

Follow the white rabbit is a new audiovisual performance and installation by artist Fatima Wegmann based on a principle of resonance between various personal narratives, experiences, dreams and cosmovisions. She established dialogues between voices, movements, symbols, objects and music that lead her on a path of healing and freedom to be in the world.

With this new production, she embarked on a more sculptural and embodied exploration of the issues that underlie her approach, namely to create spaces for action through compassionate listening to oneself and others.

Fatima Wegmann also ran an organic writing workshop, a healing writing method developed by Chicana author, poet, academic and feminist activist Gloria Anzaldúa. The workshop was followed by an embodiment exercise aimed at releasing our bodies, organs and emotions.
